Contents : 24 Minutes by Charles Boehmig My name is Jack Bauer. I have 24 minutes to eat a decent meal here at McDonald's. The fries are greasy. My pie is way too hot. And the people who work here may be involved with both. This is going to be the longest lunch of my life. 12:00:00 McDonald's Jack enters the restaurant and stands in line. This is the same McDonald's where years ago Jack complained about the service and got several employees fired. A lot of people at the McDonald's respect him for this but a few think he should have stayed out of it. Minded his own business. Jack: Yes can I please have a Happy Meal McDonald's employee: A big fella like you wants a kid's meal You want to play on the playground too Jack: I'm just not very hungry all I want is a Happy Meal. Employee: But why would you... Jack: Please! Just trust me I need you to trust me. Jack pauses for a moment. Jack: And let me have an apple pie too please. Employee: Okay sir that will be $3.02. 12:02:34 Jack pays for his meal and goes to sit down. As usual his sweet tooth gets the best of him and he goes for the pie first. But when he bites into it he is shocked to find it is extremely hot hotter than it had ever been before. Jack: What the... This pie is way too hot! Jack decides to let the pie cool down some and goes for the Happy Meal. He pulls out the tiny burger and before he removes the fries he notices a note attached to the toy. He pulls it out. It reads "PUT THIS IN YOUR EAR". Jack looks closely at the toy and finds it isn't a toy at all but an earpiece. He puts it in his ear. A busrt of static precludes a sinister voice. Voice: Hi Jack I can see you! Jack: What the... who is this Voice: Watch it Jack I don't want you to make anyone suspicious. Jack (whispering): What do you want me to do Voice: I want you to go up to the counter and exchange your meal. But keep the pie! Jack:: What do you know about my pie Voice: If you ever want to see your pie cool down do what I say! Jack: No! If you do anything to ruin my pie I swear I will kill you. Voice: DO IT JACK! Or you will BURN YOUR TONGUE! Jack: (pauses) All right I'll do it. 12:05:43 Jack takes his meal up to the counter. He is walking a bit oddly and some of the other customers stare suspiciously. Voice: Act natural Jack! Jack makes it to the counter and places the meal in front of the clerk. Jack: I'd like to exchange this meal please. Employee: What would you like to exchange it for sir Voice: A Big Mac meal! Jack: A Big Mac meal please. Voice: Very good Jack! Keep this up and maybe you will be able to eat your pie! 12:07:22 Jack exchanges his meal and goes back to his seat. Jack: Okay now what should I do Voice: I want you to *crackle* then *pop* and you *snap* Jack: Hello HELLO The earpiece is dead. Jack throws it out of his ear and decides to try the Big Mac meal. Whoever this guy is he is watching Jack and Jack doesn't want to make any wrong moves or it could mean his pie. O his precious beautiful pie! But when jack goes to eat some fries he discovers to his horror that they are greasy. Jack: Oh my God... 12:11:58 12:11:59 ...12:12:00...
